Applied Design (Digital Environments)

Induction Day

Today I had a briefing for the next project we will be doing. This module brief extends my learning from a former project area called Applied design 1 that I have completed in level 4. The emphasis for this is again trying to find out my interests and what I'm into and my approach to learning.

I will be tending to a series of workshops which I'm really looking forward to, to support me in my natural interests and my work.

Our first Project is called 'Narrative Sequence/ Narrative Surface. Using my summer work I will be choosing  one of the pathways from the workshops to then produce a set of experimental outcomes with relevant and thoughtful backup work and planning.

This is Compulsory; I have to make a 3-D character from my summer project, this could be plush toys, paper toys, something made out of wood, paper mache, clay, ect. which I'm really looking forward to do.

Here are some artists to look at to see different ideas ect.

This is work made by Siggi Eggertsson his work is mainly based around paper.

Karin Soderquist

Karin Soderquist is a Swedish illustrator and I love her work I think its class.

Chrissie MacDonald

I also learnt to think about my materials and let them do what they do by appreciating how they look already and working with the style it has already.

The 3-D model could even be as crazy as a sock horse or finger puppets.

Julie Arkell - paper-mache

Marilyn Neuhart Dolls

Jake and Dino's Chapman

Artists to look at for Narrative Surface this is another area of the project where I could produce either a one-off bespoke wallpaper or a silk scarf. (Think Hermes!)

Edward Bawden

Marcel Dzama: Diptch

Olaf Hajek: Fabric prints

I love the vibrant colours Olaf uses throughout this image, I think he is a beautiful craftsman.

'Things may not be nice but can be made into a pretty pattern.'

Rinzen - Wallpaper of Wieden and Kennedy
This image may look pretty but it is about global warming which isn't really that great, but that is what I love from the beauty of this art.

Eric Ravilious - ceramics

Narrative Sequence

This is another part of the project called 'Narrative sequence' where i could produce an animated sequence based on either the film sequence or the book of imaginary beings. where I will plan, storyboard and think about how the story can be encapsulated and communicated in a short space of time. Explore working with drawings, models and digital.

For this area I going to look at different animations directed by various people. For instance; i will be researching animations directed by Pez, Pete Mellor, choices director Weareom, Studio: Trunk, sound of colour - client - Gap - director - Chris Do 'boy'-blind.

animations can be created by all sorts of media for example; photography, collage, drawings, paintings, just basically go Wild!

Animation could be crude or clumsy whatever suits our interests.

Im really looking forward to creating some work for these projects.
BRING IT ON! :)
