Teenage Market!

On Sunday the 28th April I decided to take part in a fun event called the teenage market I thought this would be a fun unique experience to see what other people thought of my work and to see if anyone was interested in buying it. I hand-crafted and designed colourful cards I put a price of 25p for each single card and a pack of 4 for a pound. I also had extra images that were just 5p, it was a great experience to explore, I got major excited when a customer came along and bought my cards all together I had 7 customers which I thought was quite good for a first attempt being on a stall.

I also hand made my own business cards I printed 96 front and back then I glued them together then laminated them all.

Overall I thought taking part was a fun enjoyable nerve racking experience and one day I might do it again however with lots more different things to offer!

VINTAGE!!!

I randomly typed into the computer the lush word 'Vintage' to see what came up and I found this amazing website called the vintage festival when I browsed on there website i was in love its amazing the fashion the style the events the music it looks outstanding. I hope that one day in the future when I have enough money I can go to it to explore and have fun!

Creative Review

Sir Ken Robinson : Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining lecture that's highly moving on the case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity throughout a comical yet serious speech.

Here are some things that Ken Talks about that I feel just makes sense and feel I can relate to, for instance;
Education is meant to take us into the future, creativity is as important as in literacy and we should treat it as the same status.
Basically saying that people shouldn't ignore creativity as creativity is very important to people as it does play a big part throughout all our lives in different aspects of how we live.
'Robinson who earns his living as a speaker on creativity, does not blame the teachers "its the system, its too linear" he says'.

I like the way throughout the lecture Ken relates to children and Picasso talking about the fact that children are not afraid of being wrong and making mistakes and you'll never come up with anything original if your not prepared to do wrong. I feel this really relates to me throughout they way I work as Picasso is one of my influences, especially creating fond images throughout the imagination and creativity from children its so breathe taking they way they interpret life its refreshing.
As when your a child you see life in a different aspect and you don't worry about things as when you do when you get older. When your a child you have so much freedom and your imagination is so creative its extravagant. However when children become adults some of them will lose this capacity of being frightened of being wrong.

Here is a quote that by Picasso that Ken relates to;

Picasso -  'All children are born artists the problem is to remain an artist as you grow up.'

Then Ken talks about why education is growing out creativity? He says; throughout hierarchy in schools, art is at the bottom and maths and modern foreign languages is at the top. Robinson feels that schools need to eliminate the existing hierarchy of subjects as all areas are equally important and central contributions to making a students education.

It could be argued that his idea on intelligence is quite clever and rings true to reality for instance;
Robinson expresses that we need to radically rethink of our intelligence as we know there are three things about intelligence:

I really enjoyed listening to this lecture it was very refreshing and I agreed with most of it.

Which after watching this I feel this quote just sums up exactly what my emotion is on the matter; 

'1,2,3' pieces of advice that I would give myself!

Here I have given myself three pieces of advice kind of like targets that I hope to learn and achieve from throughout my life. 

My first piece of advice is that, I feel I need to concentrate more and to use my time wisely when working towards deadlines especially short deadlines I just panic sometimes and get stressed easily. So I'm going to make sure I focus on my work everyday for at least half an hour.

My second piece of advice is to be more considerate when drawing lines and to think about what materials I'm using. As sometimes throughout my work I cant tell what good line is depending on thickness, lightness and the amount of weight used compared to the material I'm using. I think to help me with this weakness I will look over my basic design project again to help me especially throughout my mark making.

My third and final piece of advice is to make sure I'm more confident throughout my writing in essays.By doing this I will try and get as much help as I can from my tutors, my family, books, internet ect  To help make my essays more formal and less chatty.

In conclusion, I am going to try and be more focused, a bit more confident in myself throughout my work and to keep exploring and experimenting, making mistakes and learning from them.

There is lots of things I wish I'd done or wish I could take credit for as there are so many different things in life that is utterly amazing its unbelievable what people think of and can do!

For instance Michelle Thompson has been at the forefront of illustration since she graduated from the royal college of arts in 1996 during the movement of
Her work is very successful in publishing, editorials and design including a vast range of materials that she uses such as; mark making, collage, photography combined with digital processes.
Michelle Thompson's compositions are outstanding and different that's what drawn me in to her work, I really enjoy exploring the different techniques she uses throughout a variety of pieces.
I love the created elements and typography she represents through her work giving off an abstract essence representing human figures or just parts of their body.
I would love to explore and experiment the combining of different materials and media's together to create something abstract with found elements showing a different light that has a new flare to it, representing a whole different meaning that maybe personal to me.

I would love to be able to create something like this its so colourful and vibrant, I adore the vintage feel I get in the atmosphere when I look at the variety compositions she has created there just amazing.

I admire the synergy produced throughout the vast materials she uses cutting and sticking, painting, mark making. These are all the things I love to do, I just hope I can create something this good one day merging all these elements together.

Another person I just totally adore and 'wish I done that' are these vintage compositions created by Jennifer Collier.
Jennifer Collier is one of my big time inspirations she is an innovative textiles and crafts artist, her work focuses on creating with paper, bonding with wax, trapping and stitching producing the most beautiful work I've ever seen.
I wish I had the skills and techniques to produce vivid compositions like Jennifer can, the way she collages things, cutting up bits and bobs then sticking them together again to make something new. It would be incredible if I could learn how to do that then turning it into something 3D that looks fragile and delicate in a unique vintage way.

I hope I can aspire to explore and learn the different techniques she uses!

The Things Jennifer Collier creates are just unbelievable they are magnificent I just really wish I could do stuff like this the vintage old fashioned essence is just breathe taking.
Her work is so inspirational its mesmerising.
I love everything she does she is very influential to me I just Love her work!

Trip to LLandudno!

25th March - 29th March 2013
Over The Easter Holidays For my 21st Birthday my lovely Boyfriend treated me to a holiday in LLandudno, It was our first Holiday together! We stayed at a lovely posh Hotel called 'The Empire' It was amazing the sun was out and shining although it did snow a few times as it was freezing!

This is a photo of the Hotel we stayed in, its Fantastic!

I've never seen the tide in so close to the steps it felt so unreal, however it was so unique and refreshing  just listening to the waves.

This is a view we had of the sea just standing outside the Hotel.

How cool is this vintage bunny I found in the middle of Llandudno village  it reminds me of the rabbit out of 'Alice and wonderland'!

Throughout this photo My lovely Boyfriend is pointing to the snow on the hills in the background it was such a beautiful view you cant tell in the picture but the mountains were really close it looked so cool seeing them completely covered in snow , also gave me a chill that ran down the spine of my back! Freaky!

LLandudno Is an Amazing place to explore lots of fun and freedom!

Design in Context Project 2

There are 3 different areas to choose from for Project 2 I'm not sure yet which one to focus on. but The projects that intrigue me the most are;  'an illustrated A-Z poster of Stockport's Fair trade' and 'Blue Peter's 'Here's one I made earlier'.

I then tried a few ideas I had of the alphabet using collage, cutting things out of magazines and a unique letter style that I thought suited a kind of vintage look! I really liked this process and the outcomes I came up with, here are a few examples of my work;

I was really enjoying this project however the process for producing the poster seemed to be abit difficult using a rizograph machine to finalise the product. I also found that trying to limit myself to three colours was really hard too, as throughout my work theres lots of colours.

So instead of this I have decided to explore a project surrounding the tv programme 'Blue Peter'.
